No-exam life insurance
Who gets approved for accelerated underwriting, how the process works, and what happens if you don't qualify.
Carriers increasingly provide fast-track underwriting for applicants within age and benefit limits. They use application data, medication history, and driving records instead of medical exams. Some decisions come through within hours. Every quote shows whether an exam is required, possibly required, or not needed for that product.
What it changes
Skipping an exam doesn't mean skipping underwriting. Your answers are verified, and policies issued based on untrue answers can be challenged within the first two years. If underwriting raises questions, the carrier can request testing or lab results; you can decide at that point whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Usually applicants under about 60 years old requesting amounts within the carrier's accelerated limits, with no significant health issues and no tobacco use in the previous year or longer. Carriers may accept recent doctor visit results in place of a new exam.
When needed, an exam usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes at your El Monte home or workplace, conducted by a paramedical professional at no charge. Positive exam results can often upgrade your rate classification, so participating in an exam can be advantageous.
